VAPPA 2017 Conference @ George Mason University

On May 31st – June 1st, 2017, George Mason University Facilities Department will be hosting the 2017 VAPPA Conference which will include educational state agencies, universities, K-12 schools, and museums throughout Virginia. The conference starts on May 31st with campus tours and an evening reception, followed by an all-day educational seminar on June 1st . We are estimating between 200 and 250 attendees at the conference.

Nancy J. Bechtol will be the Keynote Speaker, and is the Director of Smithsonian Facilities (SF) at the Smithsonian Institution.  She manages all facilities engineering and management needs within the nineteen museums and research centers and the National Zoo that make up the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC and New York, utilizing an in-house workforce of over 1850 FTE and an operating budget of 340 million.

VAPPA is the Virginia members association, which is part of national APPA: Leadership in Educational Facilities (formally known as Association of Physical Plant Administrators). APPA seeks to transform individual facilities professionals into higher performing managers and leaders; help transform member institutions into more inviting and supportive learning environments; and elevate the recognition and value of educational facilities and their direct impact on the recruitment and retention of students, faculty and staff. The mission of VAPPA is to create, continually support, and promote opportunities for professional and facility organization development, relationship building, knowledge, and information sharing among all facility personnel and business partners involved in education throughout Virginia. VAPPA, and specifically the annual conference, is the platform for networking, discussions of better practices, and the education of educational facilities practitioners. It will demonstrate state-of- the-art tools and technology to support educational facility professionals.
